A Heart on A String

An Encouraging Place for Christian Moms Juggling the Roles They Play.

Here we joyfully embrace home and family life, in the chaos of everyday living!

                    Welcome!

Being a Christian wife and mother is a lot of work! No doubt you have felt overwhelmed and tired at times - maybe a lot of the time. But it is also one of the greatest joys and treasures that a woman can possess.

It is the greatest calling you can have on your life.

I know it certainly has been in my life!

So grab a cup of coffee or tea, (or a bowl of ice cream?!) and take a deep breath, renewing your mind and spirit as you accept the encouragement and support and love offered here on these pages.‘Cuz mommas need a break sometimes! And some words of kindness and help!

A Heart on A String was born decades ago (gosh, has it been that long?), when I was teaching beading classes to homeschool moms, while our kids were in academic classes offered by our PSP.

Beading has been one of my great loves since Jr. High, but back then, it was limited, because beads could only be found in specialty shops, usually in little tiny towns in the mountains, it seemed. With sudden realization that there were now internet resources galore (eek!), the passion was renewed. Always a teacher at heart, I loved sharing what I knew with others, and I created beading kits that my students could purchase in different colors so they could all work on the same pattern, but personalize it too. I packaged those kits with my very rudimentary logo and business name on the headers at the time - I think I still have some of those kits, in fact.

As I contemplated beginning this blog, I decided I wanted to use A Heart on A String again, because it represented something I loved, and this blog is born out of my love for moms - especially those who have children at home, and husbands to care for, and even more so, those who are endeavoring to homeschool as well. But as I wrestled with how the name would apply specifically here, I realized — there needed to be a whole BUNCH of those hearts on that string!

Because there are so many elements of motherhood and womanhood to love!

Looking at Proverbs 31 - you know, that “wife of noble character” passage?

I’ve taken heart that this passage records a son recounting the counsel of his mom about what to look for in a wife - and as the mom of sons, obviously we want their future wives to have EVERY positive characteristic possible, right??

But that Proverbs 31 woman is something to aspire to for us, as wives and mothers - and so the resources you will find on these pages will include those things: how to nourish and develop our relationships with God, with our husbands, with our children, and all the pieces of maintaining a home and family life for them (and us!), including meals and environment, finances and activities that teach our kids (and remind us too) to be compassionate and effective human beings! If you are a homeschooling mom, there will be resources here for you to support you in that endeavor. If you are NOT formally homeschooling, you are still incredibly involved in the academics and development of your childrens’ hearts and minds, so you’ll find good stuff here for you as well!

if you have ideas for this space, I would love to hear from you! No guarantees I can deliver everything you need/want, but I’d love for this to be as interactive a spot for women and moms as it can be!
