A Heart on A String

Taking Care of Your Heart First

Saturday, July 1, 2023 12:00 AM

Hey there! I see you juggling a million things, running around like a superwoman, and sometimes wondering if you'll ever find a moment of peace amidst the chaos! As someone who’s been there, more often that I can say, let me share some heartfelt advice.  In order to nurture all of the hearts in your family, you have to make sure your own heart is being taken care of. That’s why it’s SO important for you to have personal quiet time and a heart-to-heart with God.  Here are 10 tips to help you with this all important God-time.

Carve Out Time for Yourself:

I know, I know, the to-do list never ends. But trust me, taking time for yourself, even if it's just a few minutes, is vital. Sneak off to the bathroom and lock the door if you have to (I've done that!). Use those precious moments to connect with God and find your inner peace.

Seek Refuge in God's Word:

When the kids are tearing through the house like a tornado, find refuge in God's Word. Remember that verse you loved as a kid? Grab your Bible or use that handy app on your phone. God's Word is a lifeline, and it'll anchor you amidst the whirlwind.

Embrace the Chaos:

Let's be real; there's no such thing as a perfectly organized life. Embrace the chaos, embrace the mess, and find God's grace in it. Even when Cheerios are scattered all over the floor, His grace is there to catch you when you're about to trip!

Reflect on Your Journey:

Look back on your motherhood journey and celebrate those victories, no matter how small. Remember the time your little one gave you that sticky jelly kiss? Cherish those precious moments and let them remind you of the beauty in the midst of the crazy.

Don't Feel Guilty:

It's okay to have a pile of laundry or a sink full of dishes sometimes. Don't feel guilty for taking a break or spending time in prayer. Jesus said, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened," so take Him up on that offer!

Share Your Faith with the Little Ones:

Your kids may not remember every lesson you taught them, but they'll remember the moments you shared your faith. Take time to pray together, talk about Jesus, and don't be surprised when they come up with some of the most profound questions!

Find Humor in the Chaos:

Let's face it; motherhood can be downright hilarious. From diaper disasters to Lego landmines, you're in for a rollercoaster of laughter. Find humor in the chaos, and remember, a good laugh can be a mini-vacation for the soul.

Prioritize Your Quiet Time:

I get it, quiet time with the kids running around seems like an oxymoron. But, sweet mama, make it a priority! Sneak in some early morning prayer time or find a few minutes during nap time. You'll be amazed at how that little dose of peace can reset your whole day.

Grace for Yourself, Grace for Others:

Just as God extends grace to us, extend it to yourself and others. None of us are perfect, and that's okay. Forgive yourself for those mom-fails (we all have them!), and remember, there's no mom manual; we're all learning on the job!

Celebrate Small Victories:

Didn't burn dinner tonight? High five! Managed to get the kids to school on time?  Or all the subjects in, if you’re homeschooling? Woohoo! Celebrate those small victories and remember, you're doing an incredible job.

Take a deep breath. You've got this! Prioritize your personal quiet time and spiritual development, and let it be a source of strength and joy amidst the beautiful chaos of motherhood.

Psalm 62:1 says “ Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from Him”.

Embrace the messy, celebrate the victories, and find humor in the journey.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 tells us “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus”.

Remember, there's no perfect way to be a mom; you're doing the best you can, and that's more than enough. One of my favorites to  keep in mind:

2 Corinthians 12:9  - “. . . My grace is sufficient for you, My power is made perfect in weakness”.

Trust in God's guidance, and know that He sees and treasures every moment of your journey.

Now, go rock that mom-life with a heart full of love and laughter!
